Koi Pond with aquatic plants and bamboo water feature

Koi Pond Project Shorewood, MN

We designed and built this Koi pond our first year in business, almost 15 years ago today. This Koi pond featured a small waterfall, a bamboo water feature, aquatic plants and of Koi. Generally speaking those of love gardening enjoy Koi. Introducing a gardener who enjoys Japanese gardens would find that Koi to be the perfact hobby. Like most hobbies having a Koi pond requires time.

When designing and building a Koi pond there are a few points to keep in mind. Try to locate the garden pond, so that there is at least some shade. Trees can definitely help, but can create more work for you when maintaining the pond and require owners to keep a closer eye on the PH level of the pond water. Aquatic plants can also be used to provide shade for your Koi. Koi like to live in groups and can grow to be quite large, up to three feet in length, so the nigger the pond the better. If you have the space and the budget for a large pond got for it, as pond lovers often wish they made their ponds bigger. If you can make your pond four to five feet deep it will help protect your Koi investment from Raccoon and other animals. It terms of size think about building a pond that holds about two to three thousand gallons and is four feet deep.

Lastly, you should talk with someone in your city planning department and verify your local codes related to ponds and your plans. This will save you trouble with potential problems and unforeseen issues.
